Engine overheating is an emergency situation that requires quick action to prevent further damage. Here are some tips for rapid cooling:
1. Idle operation:
- When you find that the engine water temperature is too high, you should slow down and park the vehicle on the side of the road, but do not turn off the engine immediately. Because the engine temperature is high at this time, if you turn off the engine immediately, it may cause some soft metals to fall off or even cause sticking in the cylinder. So after discovering the high temperature, do not turn off the engine immediately, but temporarily keep idling and try to cool it down.
2. Physical cooling:
- When cooling, do not pour cold water on the engine, which may cause the engine cylinder to burst due to sudden cooling. The correct way is to wear gloves, add a multi-piece folded wet cloth to the radiator cap, gently twist the radiator cap open a small gap, wait for the water vapor to slowly discharge, and after the water tank pressure drops, add cold water or antifreeze.
3. Increase the radiator heat dissipation area:
- Heat dissipation can be helped by increasing the radiator heat dissipation area (the external surface area of the radiator). For example, additional fins or cooling nets can be installed on the outside of the water tank.
4. Speed up the radiator airflow:
- Use a fan to speed up the air flow through the radiator. The air flow through the radiator can be accelerated by adding a wind guard, increasing the angle of the fan blades, reducing the pulley, and increasing the speed of the fan blades.
5. Check the coolant:
- Stop and check whether the cooling water in the water tank is normal. Check whether the water tank and water pipes are leaking. If there is no abnormality after inspection, you can add cooling water to cool down.
6. Use coolant or mineral water:
- Open the hood and use coolant or mineral water to cool down. Please check whether the coolant is sufficient and whether the water tank connection pipe is leaking. If there are no problems with these, also check whether the cooling fan, thermostat and water pump are operating normally.
7. Natural cooling:
- Park the car in a cool and ventilated place, open the engine hood, and wait for natural cooling. Too high engine temperature will cause damage to the cylinder gasket, burn the bearing shell, and cause mechanical failure of the engine.
8. Emergency measures when driving at high speed:
- If the pointer of the thermometer enters the red zone, stays at a high position, or vibrates repeatedly in the red zone when driving at high speed on the highway or the car is climbing a slope, emergency measures must be taken. You can immediately turn on all the warm air and open the windows. The warm air helps the cooling water to dissipate heat, which can greatly reduce the cooling water temperature.
Through the above methods, the temperature of the engine can be effectively reduced, mechanical failures caused by high temperature can be avoided, and the normal operation of the car can be ensured.
